Dog lends an ear to young readers at the Yountville library

(NAPA, Calif-)Young readers are invited to read to Emi, a gentle certified therapy dog, on Tuesday afternoons from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Yountville Branch Library as part of the Bow Wow for Books Program. The Branch is at 6516 Washington Street in downtown Yountville. Children may sign up for a free session when they arrive at the Branch, and are welcome to bring a book from home or to choose one from the Branch’s collection.

For more information regarding Bow Wow for Books, please call Jennifer Knell at (707) 253-4079, or email her at jennifer.knell@countyofnapa.org.

These special dogs provide non-judgmental companions for children and have been certified through Paws for Healing. Studies have shown that the presence of animals lowers blood pressure and decreases nervousness. The program provides a wonderful environment for children to simply relax and enjoy reading without being judged by peers or feeling self conscious.

For more information regarding programs for kids at the Yountville Branch, please call (707) 944-1888, or visit www.napacountylibrary.org and navigate to the kid’s page to view the programs and schedules for the Library.

The Board of Supervisors and staff of Napa County are dedicated to preserving and sustaining Napa County for present and future generations as a community with generous open space, a thriving agricultural industry and a quality human and natural environment.
