Old Sonoma Road campus temporarily reoccupied

NAPA – The Old Sonoma Road property is being temporarily used by Napa County Health and Human Services (HHSA) to house six displaced families.

HHSA took precautionary measures to initially relocate seven families out of Samaritan Family Shelter because of the presence of mold. County staff has successfully secured permanent housing for one family of five, bringing the total number of families being briefly housed at the former HHSA campus to six.

The remaining six families, including nine children and eight adults, are now being temporarily relocated to Building L on the Old Sonoma Road property. This relocation will be for up to 90 days and is anticipated to be shorter since county officials are proactively working around the clock to secure housing for these displaced families.

The relocation originally involved 22 people total, including 13 children between the ages of 0-16 and nine adults. Samaritan Family Shelter, located at 2521 Old Sonoma Road in Napa, provided temporary shelter for families with children.

Earlier this week, families were momentarily relocated to Napa motel rooms and an apartment by HHSA staff and local service providers, who continue to ensure food, laundry, shower, and school needs, among others, are met.

“The health and safety of these families has been our focus,” said Howard Himes, HHSA Director. “Now we’re working toward minimizing the disruption to their lives as much as possible and creating stability as we work through this matter.”

The Board of Supervisors and staff of Napa County are dedicated to preserving and sustaining Napa County for present and future generations as a community with generous open space, a thriving agricultural industry and a quality human and natural environment.
