Domestic Abuser Sentenced to Prison

District Attorney Gary Lieberstein announced today that Fidel Bueno, of Napa, was sentenced to 8 years 8 months in state prison by Judge Elia Ortiz on August 16, 2016.

Bueno was convicted at jury trial on July 19, 2016 of four “strike” charges, including felony domestic violence with infliction of great bodily injury, and felony criminal threats, based on crimes he committed on May 6, 2016, which were investigated by the Napa Police Department. On that date, he attacked the victim while she was the passenger in his car, strangled her to the point of unconsciousness, pulled the vehicle over into a parking lot, dragged her out of the car, and continued to assault her. Several witnesses attempted to intervene, and Bueno threatened to kill them. Bueno fled the scene. Napa Police Department Detectives were able to gather evidence that led them to Bueno, who was located on May 8, 2016 in Hollister, California. With the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department, Bueno was safely taken into custody.

The investigation involved the collaboration of the District Attorney’s Office and Napa Police Department. Deputy District Attorney Katy Yount prosecuted the case. District Attorney Investigator Leslie Severe and Napa Police Detective Dominic Deguilio were lead investigators.

The Board of Supervisors and staff of Napa County are dedicated to preserving and sustaining Napa County for present and future generations as a community with generous open space, a thriving agricultural industry and a quality human and natural environment.
