Yard Waste Pick-Up

Most Napa County residents and businesses are offered curbside collection of yard waste through their recycling and waste collection service provider.

Composting Facilities
Napa County has two composting facilities that produce a variety of soil amendments that are available for sale. About 80% of the organic material composted is yardwaste collected through curbside programs and from landscape projects. Grape pomace (stems, skins and seeds from the winemaking process), food, manure and chipped wood are also composted.

Home Composting
Home composting is a great way to use what you generate at home (all the organics from your yard, landscape and kitchen) to make a rich soil amendment and or mulch that can go right back to your garden. Compost improves drainage and aerates your soil, nurtures soil organisms, provides plant nutrients and conserves soil moisture. Napa City and County offer free home compost workshops annually throughout the County. To register go to www.cityofnapa.org/compost. There are many resources available to learn about composting: Read Napa’s Home Compost Workshop Guide or go to http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/Organics/HomeCompost.

Food Composting
At this time only Napa County Recycling and Waste Services (NCRWS) business customers are offered a food composting collection program. NCRWS residential customers may participate in a food composting drop-off program starting February 2010.
