Surveying Services

The Surveying Services section of the Deparment of Public Works reviews and organizes land surveying documents that deal with land in the County of Napa, including:

• Lot Line Adjustments   
• Voluntary Parcel Merger (formerly Minor LLA)
• Certificates of Compliance
• Record of Survey Maps
• Parcel Maps and Final Maps

Our goals: 

• ensure compliance with applicable State laws and County codes governing the practice of land surveying
• encourage local professionals to use good surveying practices and
• provide boundary and land-based information to the public.

Other tasks include the review of proposed annexations for local municipalities and special districts, for conformance to the standards by the State Board of Equalization.

LAFCo Referrals
The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) refers maps and legal descriptions of proposed annexations to local cities, town or special districts, for review of surveying-related technical requirements of the State Board of Equalization.
Lot Line Adjustments
Checked for compliance with Chapter 17.46 of the Napa County Code.
Records of Survey
Checked for compliance with the Professional Land Surveyors’ Act, Section 8700 et seq. of the California Business & Professions Code.
Subdivisions
Parcel Maps (4 lots or fewer) and Final Maps (more than 4 lots) are checked for compliance with the Subdivision Map Act, Section 66410 et seq. of the California Government Code, Title 17 of the Napa County Code, and any conditions of approval established in public hearing by the Napa County Planning Commission.
