Origin & Practice
The Napa SAL Judo program was created to introduce young people to Judo. Judo was originally derived from Ju-Jitsu and is a grappling martial art consisting of dynamic throws, pins, and submissions. Judo is more famous in its sporting form as seen in the Olympics. Kids learn structure, discipline, and character. The following motto is learned: ‘The secret to Judo is like the secret to life: If you get thrown down 7 times…get up 8 times.’
Program
SAL Judo is for kids from 7-17 years of age and we meet Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Classes are taught by head instructor Dan (who has over 20 years’ experience teaching), his son Josh and daughter Jessica (who both have over 10 years’ experience teaching), and two deputies from the Sheriff’s Department.
