Building Inspections

Building Inspections are required to ensure a building is constructed according to the approved plans and code requirements.

Posting Your Permit

The issued Building Permit must be posted on the job site. The Approved Plans and your Inspection Card must be kept at the job site at all times until the project is completed. During construction, you must comply with any and all laws and ordinances pertaining to your construction activity. Remember, no change or deviation from the Approved Plans can be made without prior approval from the Building Official.

Providing Access

It is the Permit Holder’s responsibility to provide access to the site for inspection. Gates and/or buildings must be unlocked or some arrangements made for a key for use by the inspector. Service lines may be subject to a pressure test. Equipment for such a test must be provided by the Permit Holder.

Inspection Progress

No work shall be done on any part of the building or structure beyond the point indicated in each successive inspection without first obtaining the approval of the Building Official. Such approval will be given only after inspection is made of each successive step in the construction process.

Scheduling Inspections

Inspections can be scheduled through the Online Permit Center, or through our Automated Phone System, which allows for scheduling via phone or text. Please refer to the following guides:

It is very important that you schedule your inspections according to the directions provided. Failure to enter the information correctly can result in your inspection not being scheduled. If you need to confirm your inspection or get an estimated time, please call 707-253-4417 on the morning of your scheduled inspection, between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., and speak to the inspector assigned to your area.

Re-Inspections

A Re-Inspection Fee may be assessed for each re-inspection when work for that inspection is not complete, or when corrections called for are not made. Re-inspections should be scheduled in the normal manner (see Scheduling Inspections above).

Final Inspection

Before the Building Division will issue a Permit Final, your project will need to receive final inspection approval from all other county departments/divisions concerned with your project. Please view the front of your Permit Card for contact information to schedule. Do not try to schedule a Building Permit Final before you have received all other department finals. A Building Permit Final and/or Certificate of Occupancy will not be issued until the construction is complete. Please call our office 48 hours after your final building inspection to confirm that you have received your Building Permit Final.
