The CalFresh Program, California’s version of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP and formerly known as Food Stamps), assists low-income individuals and households to purchase nutritional food. You do not have to be on welfare to get CalFresh benefits.
Eligibility for CalFresh assistance, as well as the benefit amount, is based on your household’s size and income level. You must be able to meet State and Federal program rules for income, resources / property, residence and legal status in order to qualify for CalFresh benefits.
While an eligibility worker can tell you exactly what you will need, you may be asked to provide things like:
Identification (does not need to be a picture identification)
Social Security number
Proof of any income
Proof of expenses - rent, childcare, child support paid, medical expenses, etc.
