Housing, Housing, Housing!
Housing has been my number one priority since I began representing District 4. By addressing the housing crisis we can help reduce many other factors that impact our way of life. Housing that is affordable allows families to live where they work, provides economic mobility to young families, and allows older adults to age at home. We must continue to fight for housing that is affordable and create opportunities for home ownership. No one development will solve the problem, but I believe, working with our cities and town, together, we can make a positive impact.
Below are a few things I have done on this issue:
- Secured permanent funding for farmworker centers from the State Government.
- Led the efforts to explore making a Family Farmworker Center to provide housing to the changing demographics of our farmworkers.
- Supported and advocated for the development of several affordable housing developments including Redwood Road and Valley View in American Canyon which, together, will bring more than 100 units to low income families, veterans, and/or seniors.
- Working on Old Sonoma Road property, County owned, to enable responsible housing to be built on-site. @(Model.BulletStyle == CivicPlus.Entities.Modules.Layout.Enums.BulletStyle.Decimal ? "ol" : "ul")>
Transportation Priorities
Transportation challenges are interconnected to our housing shortage. While increasing housing that is affordable will positively impact our commute and circulation, we cannot ignore our environment. We have to think smart and develop more sustainable transportation methods. We have more and more people using our limited road network - we need to invest in traditional infrastructure like roads and bridges, but also discuss new solutions and innovative transportation opportunities.
Below are a few things I have done on this issue:
- Currently serve on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission where I have secured funding for critical capital projects and local bus services.
- Initiated conversation with business leaders in Agriculture and Hospitality to collectively discuss addressing the traffic issues we are facing on our roads.
- Leading discussions with the Napa Wine Train on a commuter service for our workforce.
- Exploring different methods of transportation, like autonomous vehicles, and the potential to bring a pilot program to Napa County. @(Model.BulletStyle == CivicPlus.Entities.Modules.Layout.Enums.BulletStyle.Decimal ? "ol" : "ul")>
Recovery & Rebuilding Priorities
District 4 was impacted the most during the 2017 Napa Fire Complex - with over 75% of the damaged properties. I am working hard to make sure we have an efficient and speedy recovery so we can begin the rebuilding process.

Below are a few things I have done on the issue:
- Continue to facilitate workshops in the District to provide information and answer questions.
- Another workshop planned for January.
Youth Opportunities Commission
Connecting youth to jobs will not only help our economy but will also enhance our communities. We have to think and act proactively to prevent youth crime and violence. We must also work towards strengthening the opportunities for our youth to allow them to succeed in today's challenging environment.
Below are a couple of things I have done on this important issue:
- Led the efforts to rename and re-purpose the Gang and Youth Violence Commission to the Youth Opportunities Commission.
- Began a pilot program with Legacy to work with Legacy Youth to connect them to jobs in the community. @(Model.BulletStyle == CivicPlus.Entities.Modules.Layout.Enums.BulletStyle.Decimal ? "ol" : "ul")>
Sustainability Matters
The County is fortunate to be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Agricultural Preserve - an iconic proposition that is the pillar that keeps Napa County a sustainable agricultural community. The beauty that is Napa needs smart and strategic growth policies that will continue to preserve our open space and agricultural practices.
Below are a few things I have done on this important issue:
- Passed the Sustainable Groundwater Management Plan
- Ensure we are meeting General Plan Goals; and
- We are on track with Growth Assumptions
