Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Groundwater Monitoring

Napa County has a Groundwater Self-Monitoring Program. This DIY program offers training and a special Solinst measuring device to determine the depth to water in most wells.

To borrow the tool from the County:

  1. Review the "Waiver and Release of Liability for Well Measurement Equipment".
  2. Send an email to [email protected] indicating your interest in the DIY program and attach the signed liability waiver.
  3. Once the waiver is received, Napa County staff will set up a time to demonstrate the equipment at your well and help with the initial measurement.
  4. You can then borrow the equipment seasonally to measure your water level.

Before signing the waiver, please watch the following short video and review the "Tips and Precautions" document containing useful information about how to use the Solinst device.
