Permit Alterations and Extensions

Permit Alterations

Any deviation from the Approved Plans must first be approved by the Building Official. You will be required to submit drawings and engineering, if necessary, for all desired revisions along with a Permit Alteration Application (PDF) to the building office before the changes are made in the field. Depending on the scope of your revision, you may also need approval from other County Departments and/or government agencies.

Requested changes may prevent you from continuing with construction until approval has been granted. The time frame for approval will vary depending on the current workload and the degree of review necessary for your revision. Be advised that your change could result in a delay of several weeks. Changes that are deemed beyond the scope of work under the original permit will require a new permit.

Permit Expiration

Issued permits shall expire by limitation and become invalid if the work authorized is not commenced within one year from the date of permit issuance, or if the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work is commenced for a period of 180 days, or if an approved inspection has not been scheduled and performed for a period of 180 days. No work may be done under an expired permit.

Permit Extension

You may request a permit extension in writing prior to your permit expiration. Complete a Permit Extension Request Form (PDF) and submit it to the Building Official. Once approved, you will need to pay the extension fee and any outstanding balance due on your permit. Extensions are granted for a period of up to 180 days at the discretion of the Building Official. no request will be accepted more than 30 days prior to the expiration date.
