NAPA, CA – Napa County on Monday celebrated the opening of a new segment of Devlin Road, providing motorists in south county with a way to avoid Highway 29 between Soscol Ferry Road and South Kelly Road.
The new Devlin section, known as Segment E, was officially opened following a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring county and city officials.
“This is a special day for Napa County and the thousands of motorists who have relied on the heavily used Highway 29 to get where they’re going,” said Chair Diane Dillon of the Napa County Board of Supervisors. “Devlin Road will offer an alternative to the highway congestion and give commuters as well as commercial vehicles another transportation option.”
The project constructed 1,100 feet of new roadway from Airpark Road to Tower Road. Construction included a 92-foot bridge over Fagan Creek. The project contractor was Ghilotti Construction Company, Inc. of Santa Rosa. ADKO Engineering conducted the design work, and Biggs-Cardosa Associates provided construction management.
The new roadway features three lanes – one northbound, one southbound and a center turn lane – as well as sidewalks on the west side and a 10-foot wide Class I multi-use path for pedestrian and bicycle traffic on the east side.
Funding for the one-year project came from Napa Valley Business Park Traffic Mitigation Fees, including contributions from the City of American Canyon. The projected $8 million project was completed on time and under budget.
###The Board of Supervisors and staff of Napa County are dedicated to preserving and sustaining Napa County for present and future generations as a community with generous open space, a thriving agricultural industry and a quality human and natural environment.
