Second Local Case of Coronavirus in Napa County Confirmed

(NAPA, CALIF.) At 4:55pm, Napa County Public Health confirmed a second local case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Napa County. The first case in a Napa County resident was confirmed earlier in the day.

Napa County Public Health Officials are conducting their investigation. Due to medical privacy requirements and to protect identity, further information about this case will not be released at this time. The County will provide general updates when and as appropriate. The patient is in isolation and Public Health staff are working to identify close contacts.

“With the increase in testing, finding additional cases is not unexpected”, said Dr. Karen Relucio, Napa County’s Public Health Officer. “It is critical that people who develop respiratory symptoms stay at home and isolate themselves from others, even if they still feel well enough to go out. As a community, we need to act now to slow the spread of the virus.”

Symptoms of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Typically, human coronaviruses cause mild-to-moderate respiratory illness. Symptoms are very similar to the flu, including runny nose, headache, cough, sore throat, fever, and/or shortness of breath. Older adults and people with underlying health conditions may be at increased risk for severe disease.

Patients that develop a fever and lower respiratory symptoms, such as a cough or shortness of breath, should first call their health care provider and share symptoms before visiting the clinic or emergency room.  If you are currently uninsured, Covered California has opened a special enrollment period due to COVID-19.

Tips to Protect Yourself and Others

No additional precautions are recommended at this time beyond the simple daily precautions that everyone should always take, such as:

  1. Washing hands with liquid soap and water, and rubbing for at least 20 seconds;
  2. Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing; and
  3. Staying home if you are sick.

 Since flu activity will continue to remain high during this flu season, and symptoms of coronavirus are similar to the flu, Napa County Public Health also recommends getting a flu shot to protect yourself and others from the flu.

[HJ1]Why does it have to be liquid soap?

[RK2]It doesn’t.  But sometimes bar soap can be dirtier than liquid soap because other people use it.
