[ARCHIVED] Information on how the State will move through Stage 2 and Stage 3

Dear CCLHO, CHEAC, and CSAC members,

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and collaboration as we navigate our way as a state and as local jurisdictions through this pandemic together.

Last Friday, Governor Newsom shared critical information regarding how the State will move through Stage 2 and Stage 3 of the California Pandemic Resilience Roadmap. Specifically, Governor Newsom outlined additional information for counties that have attested to meeting the State’s Variance Criteria to reopen at a pace different than the State’s pace. A variance county can elect to open a given sector so long as (1) the State has issued guidance for how a given sector can reopen and (2) the local health officer has provided approval for that sector to open in that locality. If the state has not yet released guidance for a sector, then that sector cannot yet be opened. We understand how critical it is that this message be reiterated so constituents, county residents and other county staff understand how we will move forward.

We appreciate the ongoing partnership and look forward to continuing our forward movement together.

Best regards,

Sonia Y. Angell, MD, MPH

State Public Health Officer & Director

California Department of Public Health
