Napa County released its first unofficial post-election night report at 4:47 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 with 57,354 ballots counted. “This first post-election night report contains approximately 80 per cent of our projected overall turnout,” commented Napa County Registrar of Voters John Tuteur. Results are available on the county website.
“We will continue counting until we reach at least 95% of total ballots,” explained Napa County Registrar of Voters John Tuteur. Tuteur expects to reach that level no later than Tuesday November 10, 2020 with interim results being published on Monday November 9, 2020.
As of 5:00 p.m. Friday November 6, 2020 the Napa County Election Division has processed 70,539 ballots which represent 83.1% of registered voters for the Presidential Election. “Our number of processed ballots has already surpassed our total turnout in the November 2016 Presidential Election,“ Tuteur commented. There are approximately 15,000 ballots that still need to be counted.
The last uncounted ballots include military and overseas ballots (approximately 500); same day registration ballots (approximately 625); damaged ballots that need to be duplicated (approximately 250); provisional ballots (approximately 30); ballots postmarked on Election Day Tuesday November 3, 2020 which can be received until Friday November 20, 2020 and ballots that were challenged for no signature or mismatched signature on the return envelope. “These ballots require special handling prior to being counted and will be included in the final certified count,” Tuteur added.
Prior to certifying the election, California law requires the Napa County Election Division to perform a manual tally of approximately 2,000 ballots. During that manual tally, human eyes will review each contest on the paper ballots to confirm the machine count. Tuteur hopes to certify the election no later than Monday November 30, 2020.
All processes including counting, duplicating and manual tally can be observed by members of the public at the Election Division, 1127 1st St. Ste E Napa CA during regular business hours. Observers are required to follow county health officer pandemic precautions including wearing face coverings and maintaining social distancing.
