Napa County released its last unofficial post-election night report at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday November 10, 2020 with 68,895 ballots counted. “This last post-election night report contains approximately 95% of our projected overall turnout,” commented Napa County Registrar of Voters John Tuteur. Results are available on the county website: https://www.countyofnapa.org/402/Election-Results.
As of 3:00 p.m. Tuesday November 10, 2020 the Napa County Election Division has processed 71,323 ballots which represent 84.0% of registered voters for the Presidential Election. “Our number of processed ballots has already surpassed our total turnout in the November 2016 Presidential Election,“Tuteur stated. There are approximately 4,000 ballots remaining to be counted.
The Napa County Election Division now moves into the canvass phase of the election focusing on those ballots requiring more research. The next two weeks allow time for ballots postmarked on Election Day to arrive and for voters whose signatures on the return envelopes were challenged to remove the challenge.
The final 5% of uncounted ballots include military and overseas ballots (approximately 450); same day registration ballots (approximately 788); damaged ballots that need to be duplicated (approximately 250); provisional ballots (approximately 17); ballots postmarked on Election Day Tuesday November 3, 2020 which can be received until Friday November 20, 2020 and ballots that were challenged for no signature or mismatched signature on the return envelope (approximately 1,000) which can be corrected up until Wednesday November 25, 2020.
Prior to certifying the election, California law requires the Napa County Election Division to perform a manual tally of approximately 2,000 ballots. During that manual tally, human eyes will review each contest on the paper ballots to confirm the machine count. “Every vote cast in this election will be counted accurately,” Tuteur added. Tuteur hopes to certify the election no later than Monday November 30, 2020.
All processes including counting, duplicating and manual tally can be observed by members of the public at the Election Division, 1127 1st St. Ste E Napa CA during regular business hours. Observers are required to follow county health officer pandemic precautions including wearing face coverings and maintaining social distancing.
