NAPA, CA – Napa County Fire Chief Geoff Belyea has announced that he will be resigning from his position as Napa County’s Fire Chief and liaison to CAL FIRE, effective September 12, 2021. Chief Belyea’s new role as Assistant Fire Chief at the American Canyon Fire District will begin September 20, 2021. CAL FIRE Assistant Chief Jason Martin will stand in while CAL FIRE conducts its search for a new chief.
“While we are saddened that Chief Belyea is resigning, we wish him the very best,” said CAL FIRE Unit Chief Shana Jones of the Sonoma Lake Napa Unit. “We have an amazing group of the very best trained firefighters in the nation, and we are confident that we can respond to the needs of the community at a moment’s notice. CAL FIRE and the Napa County Fire Department remain committed to our residents and communities within
the county.”
“Our cooperative agreement with CAL FIRE will continue to provide a host of resources for fire protection such as personnel, aircraft, overhead, dozers, and engines.” said Assistant Chief Jason Martin. “Even in the midst of the current fire season, this change of leadership will not adversely affect our emergency response and service to residents.”
Chief Belyea was appointed by the Napa County Board of Supervisors and has served for more than 2 years in his role as Fire Chief. “I was honored to serve as Fire Chief for Napa County,” said Belyea, “this was an agonizing decision that I made with the very best for my young family at heart.”
