(NAPA CA, August 11, 2022) - Napa County officials said today that the County has now completed a thorough cleaning and disinfection process for the HVAC system at the County Hall of Justice at 1125 Third Street in Napa. Water sample of the Legionella bacteria was collected in the building’s cooling tower on July 25 and the test results were received August 10.
The County commenced disinfecting and cleaning all parts of the system immediately when the water sample was collected in accordance with best practices set forth by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), said Rebecca Craig, Acting County Executive Officer.
Craig said the process was coordinated with and carefully monitored by the Napa County Health Officer, Dr. Karen Relucio.
While the system is now believed to pose little risk for the presence of Legionella, the County will continue monitoring and will send samples to an independent outside laboratory for testing. Results are expected in 7-14 days.
Craig said that prior advice and caution issued by County Health officials concerning Legionella and Legionnaire’s Disease remain in effect.
