[ARCHIVED] Napa County highlights CalFresh program to join annual statewide campaign

NAPA, CA - As part of 2023 CalFresh Awareness Month, Napa County Self Sufficiency Services is taking the opportunity to educate the community about the CalFresh program and its benefits.

CalFresh Awareness Month is an annual statewide campaign designed to increase access to food assistance and promote healthier food choices for low-income individuals and families. CalFresh plays a critical role in reducing hunger and poverty. The program can improve health by providing nutrition assistance to thousands of low-income households in Napa County and millions of others throughout the state. CalFresh has the power to reduce hunger, support health, expand opportunity, and even respond to disasters.

The CalFresh Program helps individuals and families with low to no income to buy food. In Napa, people authorized to receive CalFresh benefits can buy food by using an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card at grocery stores, farmers markets and other authorized retailers, including some online retailers. Most food stores accept the CalFresh benefit card, which is used like a bank debit card to pay for food.

For more information about CalFresh or to apply for benefits, visit Napa County Self Sufficiency Services at www.countyofnapa.org/sssd or call (707) 253-4511.
