Whenever a CalFresh household loses food purchased with CalFresh dollars due to natural disasters, extended power outages or other household misfortunes, replacement benefits may be available to help replace some of the lost food. Self Sufficiency Services wants to issue a reminder about replacement benefits due to the recent power outages that have impacted many CalFresh households. Because of the strict timelines, it’s important to ask for replacement benefits right away.
CalFresh recipients that have lost food can ask for a replacement of CalFresh funds by turning in a signed Replacement Affidavit (CF 303) form. The form can be downloaded in English or Spanish and are also available on BenefitsCal.com and at the Self Sufficiency Services offices. The short form will collect some basic information about the food loss incident. It must be turned in within 10 days of the date the food was destroyed. This affidavit can be accepted in person, by mail, by telephone, or electronically through BenefitsCal.com.
Once the Eligibility Specialist verifies the power outage or other household misfortune and calculates the replacement amount, the benefits will be issued to your card within 2 business days.
