On February 17th, at approximately 11:00pm, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office had an Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) near the 1100 block of Henry Road in Napa.
Currently, the investigators are reviewing and assessing the deputy’s body worn camera footage which shows what transpired prior, during, and after the incident. The suspect fired the first shot, from his car, at the deputy. The Sheriff’s Deputy returned fire and the suspect died at the scene.
The decedent’s next of kin has not been notified, therefore we have not released his identity out of respect for his family. The deputy did not suffer any physical injuries and she has been placed on administrative leave.
The investigation is in the early stages and is being conducted by the Napa County Major Crimes Task Force, which consists of investigators with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, Napa Police Department and the Napa County District Attorney’s Office.
We fully intend to issue information in a timely manner without jeopardizing the integrity of the investigation. We don’t anticipate issuing additional details of this incident before Wednesday afternoon.
