The Napa County Fire Department (NCFD) provides a free chipping service to all Napa County residents who live in a designated fire hazard zone – meaning most all of rural Napa. The intent of the program is to encourage residents to comply with defensible space requirements of both the State and County, in addition to being Firewise.
Below is a brief description of the program and a link to sign up. All inquiries regarding the chipping program should be sent to [email protected] or call 707-299-1464. The intent of the program is to encourage residents to comply with defensible space requirements of both the State and County, in addition to being Firewise. The program is not intended for commercial activities or general land clearing.
Though the program is provided free to residents, the service does come at a cost which is borne by NCFF and NCFD. The program is not a land owner entitlement but a community service by a non-profit organization.
Chipping Restriction: No burned trees or limbs for chippingThese materials present a safety hazard if chipped due to the airborne dust that can be created in the process. Due to this potential hazard, burnt or charred material will not be chipped by our program. It is suggested that the material be taken to a waste site or removed by private contractor. Debris boxes are also an alternative.
