What services does the In-Home Support Services program provide?

Depending on the needs of a recipient, In-Home Support Services (IHSS) can pay care providers for:

  • Domestic Services (housework, meal preparation and clean-up, laundry, food and errand shopping)
  • Personal Care Services (bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, ambulation, feeding)
  • Accompaniment to medical appointments and alternative resources (day programs)
  • Paramedical Services, as ordered by a physician (help with injections, colostomy and catheter care)
  • Protective Supervision

IHSS does not pay care providers for:

  • General gardening or yard clean-up
  • Feeding, cleaning up after or exercising a pet
  • Moving or lifting heavy furniture or boxes
  • Washing windows
  • Transporting anyone but the recipient
  • Paying bills
