Sensory Friendly Storytime
Sensory Friendly Storytime 2023-02-04T11:00:00Sensory Friendly Storytime is an interactive event designed for children ages 8 and younger who have a difficult time in large groups, are on the autism spectrum, have sensory processing challenges, or other special needs. This storytime combines preschool-level books, songs, and activities to engage senses in developing emerging literacy, social interaction, and both gross and fine motor skills. Sensory-friendly aspects include a picture schedule, small group size, soft lighting, manipulatives, and fidget toys. The program is approximately 30 minutes long, with an additional 30 minutes of free play. If your child has difficulty sitting through a traditional storytime this inclusive program of stories, songs, and activities may be just what you are looking for.

After the presentation, decorate a small wooden boat that will be deployed on an Arctic ice sheet. You will be able to track your boat in real time through the Float Your Boat program as the boat circulates in ocean currents.
Presenter Regina Brinker is a retired middle school science teacher. Through the PolarTREC program, Regina spent three weeks on the Alaskan North Slope with a research team investigating the release of CO2 from thawing permafrost.
